Timeline Of Key Activities For 2021 BECE For School Candidates – WAEC

The office of West African Examination Council (WAEC), has outlined the timelines of key activities for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for school candidates, 2021.

According to WAEC, registration will commence from 15th March through to 14th May, 2021.

Find below, the full times of key activities as outlined by WAEC.

Early Period

15th March – 14th May, 2021


Late Entry Period (Penalty – 50% of registration fees)

17th May – 31st May, 2021


Corrections can be effected till 31st May, 2021.

(Corrections on names and photographs should be referred to the nearest WAEC office)

31st May, 2021


Downloading of Software online and uploading of Continuous Assessment Scores.

Uploading of Continuous Assessment Scores Online (No submission of CASS CDs, Please keep backup).

1st June – 30th July, 2021


Downloading of School Choice Software online and selection of schools.

Uploading of School Choice Files online.

2nd July – 31st August, 2021


Receipt of Reports on Matching Entries with CASS/School Choice Files from ICTD.

1st – 8th September, 2021


Briefing Course for Supervisors and Directors of Education.

  Qualified / Eligible Candidates

The Basic Education Certificate Examination is available to students in the final/third year in Junior High Schools. It is illegal to register students who are;

  • Not in your school or from other schools
  • Not in form 3
  • Re-sitters

Re-sitters are to register for BECE for Private Candidates, 2021. Note: this registration is currently ongoing.

Registration of Candidates: This is to be carried out in three (3) phases.

  • Phase 1 – Capture of bio data, subject selection and pictures of candidates – 15th March – 14th May, 2021.
  • Phase 2 – Capture of Continuous Assessment Scores – 14 th June – 30 th July, 2021.
  • Phase 3 – Refer to activity table above.
