VGMA Ban On Shatta Wale And StoneBwoy Lifted
VGMA Ban On Shatta Wale & StoneBwoy Lifted
The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), has lifted the ban imposed on Ghanaian reggae dancehall artistes, Shattawale and Stonebwoy. The decision to lift the ban was taken after an inauguration meeting held on January 28, 2021.
The ban on these artistes was imposed in 2019 as a result of a brawl by the two artistes during the Awards Ceremony of the 20th Anniversary edition of the VGMA.
According to the management, the act disrupted the ceremony and threatened the safety of patrons which lead to the two being exempted from participating in the 21st VGMA held in 2020.
The Board has however agreed to admit the two acts back to the scheme. They are hoping such contentions will not occur in the future events.
“This makes them eligible to participate in this and subsequent editions of the VGMA, if they so desire”, they added.
They have therefore given the two dancehall artistes the chance to collaborate with other artistes for participation in the VGMA.
The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards has since 1999 been dedicated to celebrating Ghanaian musicians in shaping the Ghanaian Music Industry in a positive light.
The VGMA has stated that they will continue to work with the stakeholders of the music industry to uphold the image and integrity of the scheme.
Meanwhile, the call for nominations from artistes of music works (songs, EPs/Albums) released between 1st January and 31st December 2020 is in progress.
Deadline is slated for Monday, 15th February, 2021.
