U/E: Teacher Uses Social Media To Secure Furniture For Naaga Primary School
A teacher of Naaga Primary School in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality in the Upper East Region has wooed public assistance to secure pieces of furniture for school pupils who laid on the bare floor for studies.
According to the primary two teacher, Mr. Desmond Kampoe, the situation where the pupils had to lie on their bellies to write due to inadequate furniture was affecting academic work and needed urgent attention.
In an attempt to ameliorate the plight of school pupils, Mr. Kampoe took to social media to appeal for funds to acquire furniture for the vulnerable pupils.
Speaking to Citi News at Naaga, Mr. Kampoe, said, the successful campaign led to the acquisition of 172 dual desks for the school.
“I was stationed here in Naaga primary school in September 2017 and when I got to the school, I actually noticed that there was a furniture problem in the school.”
“But in November 2019, I started the project privately by reaching out to people via social media to raise support to get furniture for the entire school”.
“Even though I faced some challenges, I got Mr. Abel Sellah and friends who supported me with 30 dual desks, Technology Beyond Borders (TWC) also supported me with 51 dual desks, Dr. Julius Awini also supported with 95 dual desks while my personal friends also assisted me to secure 81 dual desks to address the furniture problem in the school”.
He also commended the Kassena-Nankana Municipal Assembly for donating 20 dual desks to help address the problem.
Mr. Kampoe said the intervention will not only enhance the academic work of the pupils but also give them a decent learning environment to excel.
“The donation is really timely because it comes in needy to help contain the furniture problem we were facing.
Unlike those days when the pupils were lying on their bellies to write, it was difficult to space the pupils but with the use of the furniture it will help”.
“The children used to come to school and within two days their clothes are dirty because they were lying on the bare floor.
But with the donation of this furniture, they now have furniture to sit on and throughout the week they might wash once, and I’m happy that the furniture problem in the school has been solved”.
Mr. Kampoe further appealed to the government for the rehabilitation of the school to guarantee the safety of school pupils.
He also appealed for more textbooks for the pupils to enhance their reading and writing ability.
