Reopening Of Schools: Date To Be Set After 30th December 2020
Reopening Of Schools To Be Determined After Cabinet Meeting On 30th December
The resumption of school will mark the beginning of a new era of academic year as the Ghana Education Service (GES) has reformed the academic structure for schools in Ghana.
Currently, the President-Elect of the Republic of Ghana; His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo is receiving briefings from the Covid-19 Technical Taskforce on limited school re-openings.
It is after this briefings that the President will announce when schools will be reopened in January 2021. The Information Minster; Hon. Oppong Nkrumah in a news conference in Accra said the Taskforce will analyse and evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on students and would work even during the Christmas period.
It can be recalled that final year students in the various tertiary institutions in Ghana were asked by Government to report to school in July 2020 to complete their semester course as well as their exit examinations.
Again, final year Senior High School students were also asked to report to school and complete their term course. This paved way for the West African Examination Council to conduct the 2020 BECE and WASSCE for school candidates to mark the end of school for all final year students.
Second year students from both Junior High School (JHS) and Senior High School (SHS) were also asked to return to school in October 2020 to complete their term course.
During these times, there were instances where some students as well as teachers contracted the coronavirus disease.
It is in view of this that the Taskforce instituted by Government is investigating and analysing the impact it had on the partial resumption of schools in order to provide a detailed report to the President to decide whether or not to give the greenlight to reopen school.
Ghana currently stand at a whooping record of 54,043 positive COVID-19 case count, with 52,777 recoveries or discharged and 333 deaths as at Saturday, December 19, 2020.
