Explanation On Number Of School Selection(s) By BECE Graduands
Choosing and selection of school(s) for your ward might seem like an easy to do job but it can also be hectic and time consuming.
As school selection has now been opened for the just ended Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) Candidates to choose the school(s) they wish to attend after passing their exams, Newsvibz brings to you a detailed explanation of how it school be done as outlined by the Director-General of Education; Prof. Kwasi Amankwa.
In an interview monitored by our outfit, Prof. Kwasi Amankwa is seen explaining how the selection is done. He explained on Asempa Fm’s EKOSIISEN that candidates are to select ONLY 3 schools.
This 3 schools will make up for your 1st choice, 2nd choice and 3rd choice. With emphasis to your 1st choice, there are specific schools one can select.
Such schools have been categorized as Group ‘A’ Schools. As a candidate, you are supposed to select ONLY 1 school from this category.
Next is the Category ‘B’ schools. Here, candidates are at liberty to select 2 schools from the various Senior High Schools they find there.
One is permitted to make all of his/her school selection from Category ‘C’ schools. Mind you, you are not allowed to do this for Category ‘A’ schools.
According to Prof. Kwasi Amankwa, the reason for this is that Category ‘A’ schools are few and making all your school selection from just that category will create problems.
Aside all this, one is permitted to select 1 school which is a day school. Its explanation being that, sometimes parents/guardians will wish for their wards to be closer to them and hence, the idea of creating such option.
“It is and has been the wish of the Ghana Education Service that candidates select Technical and Vocational schools from the available 47 TVET schools“, said Prof. Kwasi Amankwa.
He therefore encouraged that candidates go for these options as all those schools fall under the Free SHS Programme.
Quizzed on exactly how many schools a candidate is to select, the Director-General of Education stated that, candidates will in all, choose 5 schools but in real effect, only 3 options are your actual selection.
