93,724 teachers expected to be recruited by 2020; Director-General Of GES

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has already started the recruitment of 16,500 trained teachers from the various training colleges across the country. It is estimated that 16,500 trainees will be recruited.

It can be recalled that in a special recruitment organized early this year by GES, 1,500 trained teachers who completed their studies in 2017/2018 academic year but had various challenges with their papers were recruited to bridge the gap of recruitment.

Currently, the portal has been opened for the recruitment of University Graduates with Educational background. Interested and qualified applicants are entreated to visit www.gespromotions.gov.gh to complete their online application and upload all valid and required documents. Deadline for this recruitment is November 30, 2020.

The Director-General of Ghana Education Service (GES); Prof. Opoku-Amankwa has said that 66,357 teaching and non-teaching staff has been recruited so far.

Giving a breakdown of this figure, he stated that in 2017, 33,810 teaching and non-teaching staff were recruited.

This was made up of 19,600 teaching and non-teaching stuff as well as 14,170 newly trained teachers.

He added that a total of 8,872 teachers were recruited in 2018 to fill up the shortage of teachers in the various Senior High Schools as a result of the Double-Track System.

Again, he stated that 23,675 trained and non-teaching staff were recruited in 2019. This included 1,445 non-teaching staff for schools under the Double-Track System, 14,500 newly trained teachers and 7,730 non-teaching staff under the GES/Youth Employment Agency.

According to the Director-General, 93,724 teachers expected to be recruited by 2020.
